Soup N’at summer edition winner- Gerry Florida!

We are proud to present the winner of our Soup N’at summer edition, Gerry Florida, of the “Why Art?” Billboard project!

Florida teaches art at Shuman Juvenile Detention Center and raises funds to print posters of the artwork of kids in the Center that go on Pittsburgh Port Authority buses. This public artwork project helps the kids build self-esteem and breaks down stereotypes of those in detention centers among the communities to which they return. One of the upcoming artworks to go on a city bus will proudly display that it has been sponsored in part by Soup N’at!

Congratulations! We can’t wait to see the public art on buses around the city!

At the end, a big thank you to all our wonderful volunteers, Musician Jacquea Mae and kind sponsors and supporters ( local chefs Caitlin Crawford and Madalyn Hochendonor, Penn’s Corner Farm Alliance, East End Food Co-op, Whitfield at Ace Hotel Pittsburgh, Bar Marco, Allegro Hearth Bakery, Trader Joe’s, and Penn Brewery).

March 2017 Soup N’at: The results are in!

We’re excited to announce the winner of last night’s Soup N’at. Through the support of our guests, volunteers, and organizers, we were able to raise $476 for the artist that gained the most audience support.

All five projects were well received and much loved by our audience, however, there can only be one winner for the Soup N’at March 2017.

Jess Gold and Amos Levy (pictured above) took home the prize with their presentation on the Community Mixtape Project. The funding will be used to support their June gallery show at Assemble, which will allow their students to share stories, poetry, songs, and art with a public audience. The show will serve as a critical platform to better amplify the youth participants’ voices and begin building a long-term digital audience for their media.

Congratulations! We can’t wait to see the show and hear more amazing Community-Sourced Mixtape Podcasts in the future.

At the end, a big thank you to all our wonderful volunteers, Musician Aaron Lefebvre and kind sponsors and supporters (Soup Nancys, Aladdin’s Eatery Pittsburgh, brillobox, Kitchen volunteers Caitlin Crawford and Madalyn Hochendoner, Penn’s Corner Farm Alliance, East End Food Co-op, Whitfield at Ace Hotel Pittsburgh, Food Glorious Food, Allegro Hearth Bakery, and Penn Brewery).

Thank you to everyone who attended. See you next time!
